BANGALORE: The JD(S) condemned the transfer of Pranob Mohanty, DGP, Karnataka Lokayukta, within a few months of assuming office, claiming that his transfer was politically motivated, especially after the office of the omubudsman filed an FIR against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on illegal mining.JD(S) floor leader in state assembly H D Revanna alleged that Yeddyurappa had an altercation with Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and Chief Secretary S V Ranganath and forced them to effect Mohanty’s transfer.Addressing the media here on Tuesday Revanna charged that Mohanty was transferred without prior consultation with the Lokayukta. “Mohanty was posted to Lokayukta only six months ago before being shunted out from the post,” he said, asserting that the new Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda had succumbed to the pressure tactics of Yeddyurappa. The state government, in a notification issued here on Monday, had posted Mohanty as the Joint Police Commissioner of Bangalore (Crimes) West in a newly created post.Mohanty, Revanna added, was transferred for investigating the involvement of the former CM, his son and son-in-law in illegal mining. “JD(S) condemns the transfer of a honest official.” Pointing out that the BJP government has not allowed any officer to continue in the same posting for more than a year, he added that such transfers will demoralise other honest officials and result in erosion of ethics in the police ranks.
