KOCHI: The Kerala Science Congress will be held from January 29 to 31 in Kottayam. It is being jointly organised by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and the Rubber Board. It will be held at the Rubber Research Institute, Kottayam.This year’s special theme is ‘Climate Change: Plantation Crops and Spices of Kerala.’ The panel discussion is on ‘Science, Communication and Journalism.’ The special session is on ‘Cutting-edge Research Areas in Science and Technology and their Implications on Kerala’s Development.’ The 24th session will see three memorial lectures in honour of P T Bhaskara Panicker, P K Gopalakrishnan and P R Pisharody. This year, arrangements have been made for postgraduate students to interact with scientists so as to kindle their research sense, said K V Jayakumar, Director, Kerala School of Mathematics. Selected students from various districts will participate in the event. As the umbrella organisation of the research establishments in the state, the KSCSTE organises the annual Congress to revitalise research and development in the state and identify new talents in scientific research. Presentations will be made in different areas, including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, veterinary sciences, biotechnology, industry, geo informatics, environment, earth system science and science and society.About 12 sessions will be held from which the young scientists will be selected. Young scientists award winners will get a prize money of Rs 25,000 and a grant of Rs 1,00000 for further research.A science expo will be organised at the Mammen Mappillai Hall.
