CHENNAI: A cultural union of different dance forms will feature at Mahabalipuram’s month-long annual dance fest - the Indian Dance Festival that was inaugurated in the historic town on Tuesday. In a first, the festival is being held on the premises of the shore temple as opposed to its usual venue - in front of Arjuna’s penance. The Indian Dance Festival 2012 is organised jointly by the government of TN and the Union Ministry of Tourism and would go on till January 26, 2012. The fete was inaugurated with a Bharathanatyam recital by Lakshmi Ramasamy of Sri Mudralaya.Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had conceived the idea of the festival in 1991 in her previous tenure. State tourism minister Gokula Indira said entry to this year’s event was made free for all tourists, as per the chief minister’s order. School education minister C Ve Shanmugham gave the inaugural speech.
