Manivannan shared that his father, born in M Pudhupatti village, pursued higher education abroad and retired as a college principal.

There is a Government High School in M Pudupatti Village, within the Sivakasi Circle of Virudhunagar District, Tamil Nadu. Initially a primary school until 2013, it has since been upgraded to a high school. Now, it hosts over 200 students. However, because the school is still housed in a building meant for a primary school, it lacks sufficient classroom space. As a result, students often find themselves studying outdoors, under a tree.

Selvithai, the principal of the school, mentioned that for the past ten years, students have been facing tough conditions as they have to study under a tree due to the lack of classrooms. Despite these challenges, students from this school have achieved a 100% pass rate in general exams.

When the government was informed about the school’s situation, lacking adequate facilities and security, funds were allocated to build a new school building. However, finding a suitable location for the new school in M Pudhupatti village was difficult. Fortunately, Manivannan, a village native working in the United States, stepped in to help by donating two acres of his land, out of a total of five, to the government school in honour of his parents.

Manivannan shared that his father, who was born in M Pudhupatti village, pursued higher education abroad and retired as a college principal. Moved by the difficult conditions of the M Pudhupatti school, which he witnessed firsthand, Manivannan decided to donate the land to honour his father’s memory and ensure children wouldn’t have to face similar educational struggles. He wanted to make it easier for them to receive an education.

This generous act follows another recent donation by Aai Ammal from Madurai, who gave 1.5 acres of land to a government school. Manivannan’s contribution, especially coming from someone native to the Virudhunagar district, has earned him widespread praise. Reflecting on this, M Pudhupatti villagers expressed gratitude towards Manivannan for his significant support to the school.
