Itanagar: Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister and Congress Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gegong Apang's son, Getem Apang, was kidnapped from Itanagar on Wednesday night.
Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police Ajay Chaddha confirmed that Getem, 20, and his music teacher N Rai have been abducted and a FIR has been registered in Itanagar.
"We are hopeful of recovering the young boy. We don't know the reason but full support is with the family and we are doing the needful," Chaddha said.
“His car was recovered on the outskirts of Itanagar. Apparently the family members received a phone call from the abductors although we are yet to get details of the phone conversation,” a police official investigating the case said.
Police have begun a hunt to rescue Getam although no clues were found as to who the abductors were.
“Investigations are on and we have contacted our counterparts in Assam as well to see if they have any information,” the official said.
There are no local militant groups in Arunachal Pradesh an police suspect the abductors could be political rivals of Apang or militants from Assam who had kidnapped Getem for ransom.
