“I want to upgrade the General Hospital into a superspeciality and make all the taluk hospitals more patient-friendly. The concept of taluk hospitals should change,” said Dr Junaid Rehman, who took charge as the District Medical Officer on Tuesday.
Though he was due for promotion last year, he relinquished it and remained the superintendent of the General Hospital to continue the NABH accreditation-related work. The outlook towards the General Hospital has changed as it has all the facilites but for superspeciality.
“Every day we refer at least 10 patients to superspecialities,” he said.
He was instrumental in giving a facelift to the General Hospital through his untiring efforts over the last decade.
Ever since he assumed charge as the Resident Medical Officer in the hospital in 2002 he has been doing yeoman service to the needy and building up the hospital infrastructure. “The then District Collector Gyanesh Kumar had a project up his sleeve and the funds and we started work and now the hospital has achieved NABH accreditation.
“It has been a slow and steady progress. I want to do the same for taluk hospitals,” he said.
He will be visitng all taluk hospitals in the district and see what can be done to upgrade them.
However, he has only a short term in office to initiate plans. “I have only a three-month term after which I will retire,” he said.
