New Delhi: Just a day after the Arvind Kejriwal government was sworn in, a woman was sexually assaulted at a metro station in Delhi. What is more horrifying is that the incident happened at a place where over a dozen CCTV cameras were installed which is monitored by CISF.

Delhi Metro is considered to be extremely safe for women, but the incident on February 1 raises questions over the claims. On Sunday, February 15 at around 8:30 pm, a 30-year-old woman was waiting for a train at Model Town station when she was allegedly attacked by a young man.

The woman was talking on her phone, when a young man attacked her and before she could react, the man pushed her on the ground and tried to drag her to a corner. When the woman cried for help, he even hit her on the face.

She suffered several injuries, suffered some cuts and bruises resulting in bleeding. Since it was a Sunday and late evening so there was no one on the platform. For nearly 1.5 minutes, the woman tried to defend herself.

To her relief, a metro train arrived at the station and the passengers who got down looked at her and saved her from the man. He was handed over to the security staff at the station.

The accused identified as 18-year-old Ashish, is a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar. An FIR has been filed in the case.
