CHENNAI: The city police arrested four persons who had allegedly kidnapped a one-and-a-half-year-old boy at Saidapet, here on Thursday.According to police, the four accused — Sathiyamurthy, an autodriver, Indira, Nagammal and Sumathi — reportedly kidnapped Maniraj, who was playing in front of his house in Saidapet on June 16.Maniraj’s father Murugan (35), a labourer, was away at work at the time of the incident. His wife Senthamil Selvi was cooking inside the house, while their two children, Ashwini and Maniraj, were playing in the portico of the house. Meanwhile, Maniraj stepped out of the house, when an unidentified person kidnapped him. “Ashwini, who saw her brother being kidnapped immediately informed my wife,” said Murugan.Based on a complaint, the city police formed a special team and began searching for the kidnappers. They secured Sathiyamurthy, an auto driver from Porur, who admitted to the crime and told the police about the involvement of the other persons in the crime.It came to light that Sivasalapathy, an Erode-based businessman, and his wife Santhi, who did not have children and they contacted Rosemary, who worked at the Lawrence Charitable Trust in Ashok Nagar, and one Indira, to get them a child.Since adoption involved lengthy procedures and paperwork, the couple asked Rosemary and Indira to find them a child and agreed to pay Rs 2.5 lakh for it. The couple paid Rs 60,000 as advance following which the four accused kidnapped Maniraj from Saidapet. A search is on for three persons, including Rosemary, police said. The boy was reunited with parents.
