CISF unit changed; ISRO probing security breach

A day after 44-year-old Buela N Sam was caught for breaching security at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters here, police took her into custody for further investigation.

In another development, two senior Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials arrived here from New Delhi on Tuesday for investigations.

Meanwhile, ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan said an internal inquiry has been ordered into the matter.

Sources claimed that the CISF has changed its entire unit that was deployed at Antariksh Bhavan on New BEL Road  on Tuesday morning following the security breach. “Some have been detained for questioning,” the source revealed.

On Monday, City Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji had ruled out a security breach and outright claimed that the intruder did not enter the headquarters. However, CISF on Tuesday filed the official investigation report (a copy of  which is available with TNIE) stating: “The intruder did enter ISRO headquarters. On September 21, at about 15.00  hours, a lady aged around 44 years was found roaming in a suspicious manner in the Department of Space Headquarters  (Antariksh Bhavan) compound situated at New BEL Road, Bangalore.”

The report also said the intruder, Buela Sam, had an ID card that showed her designation as a Grade A Environmental Scientist with her residential address at Ahmedabad. “She was allotted room No T 7 on the basis of her identity card as well as information she furnished at ISAC guesthouse. She reached the guesthouse on September 19 at 11.20 hours,” the report read.

Her husband, Alex Thomas, a high school teacher, who is in the city for  interrogation, continued to claim that she was undergoing treatment for depression for the last 18 months.
