BANGALORE: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s mining woes seem to be far from over. S R Hiremath and Vishnu Kamat of Samaj Parivarthan Samudaya (SPS) who have been spearheading a fight against illegal mining in Karnataka, have reiterated before the CEC that a CBI probe should be conducted into the alleged illegalities committed by former CM and some mining majors operating in Karnataka.   In a reply to the state government’s application before the CEC requesting not to order a CBI probe, Hiremath and Kamat strongly argued that the facts and circumstances pertaining to the allegations against Yeddyurappa and corporates provide sufficient prima facie material and make a compelling case for an independent and  thorough investigation.    This apart, they said, the application filed by the state government never denied the fact that large sum of donations were received by a Trust belonging to the close relatives of Yeddyurappa and his kith and kin. “No prope explanation was given as to why these donations were made. Only a CBI probe will be able unearth the mystery behind these pay-offs,” they argued. They also differed from the HC verdict quashing the FIR filed against Yeddyurappa.
