CHENNAI: DMDK MLAs were taken by surprise when they dropped in for a high level meeting at party headquarters in Koyambedu on Saturday. Each MLA was gifted with a Blackberry phone by their party leader Vijaykanth, to help them keep in touch with the public round the clock. “Don’t behave like masters, as your prime aim is to serve the people,” the actor- turned-politician’s message to the MLAs. Vijaykanth advised them to frequent the constituencies to address grievances of the voters. “It is a novel initiative to reach out to the educated masses,” said DMDK presidium chairman Panruti S Ramachandran. Speaking to Express, he said this would be helpful for MLAs to know about problems in their constituencies and resolve them at the earliest.Pointing out that the email facility would help the MLAs look into an issue immediately, he said, “For those who are not well versed with new technology, assistance would be extended.” The party has created email address for every MLA so people can connect with their representatives on public issues. Meanwhile, Vijaykanth has said the Election Commission of India has recognised DMDK as a State party following its Assembly poll performance and had allotted it the ‘drum’ symbol.
