MADURAI: The organisers of ‘Jallikattu’ have condemned the act of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest for passing an order banning ‘Jallikattu’ without consulting the members of Parliament and the organisers involved in Jallikattu. On Friday, one such organisation called Jallikattu Vizha Kuzhu attempted a unique protest by bringing bulls to the District Collectorate to revoke the order and restore the traditional sport to its glory.Stating that the cultural sport was held in a proper manner after the implementation of Tamil Nadu ‘Jallikattu’ Regulation Act 2009, one of the organisers said that there was no need to ban the sport. “According to the guidelines of the Supreme Court, ‘Jallikattu’ was conducted in a safe way. But the ministry has issued orders on June 11, 2011 bringing bulls into the list of animals like lions, tigers, bears, monkeys and leopards by expanding the provisions of prevention of cruelty to animals act 1960”, the organisers said and added that the Act is in violation of Indian constitution since the ministry did not consult them and the members of Parliament. Therefore, the organisers urged the State government to interfere in the matter and take steps to revoke the order issued by the Union Ministry and to revive the traditional bull taming sport.
