New Delhi: Mobs of Hindus and Muslims pelted stones on each other, fired shots and tried to kill policemen who intervened, the FIRs filed in Kasganj violence cases have claimed. News18 has accessed all the five FIRs filed in connection with the communal clashes.
While three of the FIRs have been filed by the police, the fourth has been filed by the father of 22-year-old Chandan, who was killed in the violence. The last was filed by the family of Nasir, who was injured in the violence.
When police reached the spot in Kasganj, where groups of Hindus and Muslims first clashed with each other on January 26, they were fired upon from the houses in the areas, a local SHO in his FIR has mentioned.
“Members of one community accused the other community of obstructing their tricolour rally. Police tried all means to quell the commotion but nobody was in a state to listen. Firing and stone pelting started from the by lanes. Members of both communities started pelting stones on us and fired at us with an intent to kill,” the FIR reads.
The FIR goes on to state that members of one community, with an intent to fuel communal hatred, set fire to places of worship of the other community. Two mosques were reportedly set on fire in the clashes.
“There was fear and terror among people. People were roaming across the town and firing from their guns. We received 10 bullet shells from the roads,” it added. The FIR names one Nasruddin, who was bearing arms and fired on people with an intent to kill.
Sushil Gupta, the father of Chandan, alleged in his FIR that his son was stopped by some Muslims when he was carrying out his tricolour march. He said it was pre-planned, a trap had been laid to kill him. He further claimed that Muslims shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans, and when Chandan objected, his killers shot him.
The FIR filed by Nisar, whose son suffered a gun-shot injury on his thigh, says that that somebody from the mob shot at the boy. Other FIRs also filed by the area SHO talk about how a 30-40 strong mob set fire to shops and started communal clashes in the area.
Communal clashes in Kasganj had started on the morning of 26 when unidentified miscreants pelted stones at a “Tiranga Yatra” motorcycle rally of workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad. More than 100 people have been arrested so far and the city is still in lockdown mode as it limps back to normalcy.
