In a tragic incident in West Bengal’s Konnagar, an 8-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his mother, who reportedly saw him as ‘an obstacle’ in her same-sex relationship with her girlfriend.
The West Bengal Police initiated an investigation on Tuesday morning, interrogating Shanta Sharma, the mother, and her girlfriend, Iffat Parveen, which ultimately led to their arrest, with both women now facing charges in connection with the murder of the fourth-class student.
Detailing the incident during a press conference at Uttarpara police station, Srirampur DCP Arnab Biswas revealed that the two women had been close friends even before their marriages.
“Shanta got married in 2012, while Parveen married in 2018. However, within a few months, Parveen left her husband’s house. Both families were aware that the two frequently visited each other’s homes and spoke on the phone till late at night. The day after the incident, Parveen visited Shanta’s house to offer condolences,” DCP Biswas said.
Srirampur DCP further disclosed that 8-year-old Shreyansh Sharma was murdered on February 16, with the “only witness being his pet dog, Shadow”.
Additionally, the DCP stated that, based on the information found at the scene and after examining the forensic investigation report and CCTV footage of the area, it is confirmed that the child’s mother and her girlfriend are involved in the brutal murder.
Biswas further mentioned that both women will be presented in Serampore court, and the remand and investigation will proceed.
