HYDERABAD: The annual ritual of distribution of fish medicine to asthma patients by the Bathini Goud family will begin at 10.15 pm on June 8 at the exhibition grounds in Nampally on the auspicious occasion of Mrigasira Karthe day. The distribution of fish medicine will continue on June 9. Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Bathini Harinath Goud, secretary of Bathini Mrigasira Karthe Fish Prasadam Committee, said the district administration, in association with various voluntary organisations would made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth distribution of fish medicine to asthma patients. “Members of the Bathini family will administer the fish medicine to asthma patients at their home in the auspicious muhurat. Later, the fish medicine will be distributed at the exhibition grounds. Asthma patients from different states in the country and abroad take the fish medicine during the annual event. More than 4 lakh asthma patients are expected to take the fish medicine this year,” he said. The exhibition society has allotted Nampally grounds to the Bathini Mrigasira Karthe Fish Prasadam Committee on June 8 and 9 for administration of the fish medicine to asthma patients. The police, Roads and Buildings, water works and electricity departments and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are also extending their support to the Bathina family for the conduct of the annual ritual smoothly. The department of fisheries will set up more than 25 stalls at the exhibition grounds to supply live murrel fingerlings to asthma patients. Each fingerling is priced at Rs 10. The contents of the fish medicine is a closely guarded family secret of Bathina family for over 150 years. It is believed that if the fish medicine is taken for three successive years, asthma will be completely cured.Replying to a query, Harinath Goud claimed that the medical laboratories certified that the fish medicine is safe and effective. All the court cases filed by different rational organisations against administration of the fish medicine have been dismissed, he said. The Bathini family has been distributing the fish prasadam free of cost to asthma patients for the past 164 years. The family claims that the formula of herbal medicine (a yellow paste which is kept in the mouth of murrel fingerling) was told to their ancestor by a saint in 1845 after taking an oath from him that it would be administered free of cost.
