CHENNAI: Amidst initial opposition from a section of councillors, the Chennai Corporation Council, on Wednesday, unanimously passed a resolution altering the agreement clause the civic body had entered into with Neel Metal Fanalca (for providing conservancy operations) so as to return the sum held back from its bills in an effort to infuse cash liquidity.
The resolution changes the period of holding back NMF's money from three years to three months and pave the way to returning the (0.5 per cent) money retained by the Corporation from NMF's every bill. The resolution invited sharp reactions from councillors from treasury and opposition benches, who chided the private agency for its shoddy work. Finally assurances given by Commissioner D Karthikeyan and Mayor M Subramanian helped the resolution sail through.
