New Delhi: World Champion Fernando Alonso and the Renault team are hoping to secure their seventh win of the season at the French Grand Prix in next Sunday.
Not only will Grand Prix racing be celebrating 100 years of competition but Renault will be celebrating 100 years of success, having won the inaugural event at Le Mans back in 1906.
Current world champion Fernando Alonso and his Italian team mate Giancarlo Fisichella will be hoping to complete 70 laps around the Magny-Cours circuit in over an hour and a half.
Alonso won the French Grand Prix last year and is looking forward to another victory.
"Last year it was fantastic, it was one of the best races I think I did last year. McLaren was really strong at that part of the championship and we won with no mechanical problems for them, we won because we did a perfect race and I remember the atmosphere was fantastic. All the French people were really excited about the victory and I was excited too," Alonso said.
In the 2006 drivers championships the Spaniard is on top with 88 points while Michael Schumacher is in second place with 69 points after winning the US Grand Prix on June 2.
Alonso 's teammate Giancarlo Fisichella is at number three with 43 points and Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren Mercedes is fourth with 39 points though he has not won a single race this season.
