After Puja Khedkar Row, Video of 'Blind' HCS Officer Driving Sparks Controversy
A petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court questioning Ashwani Gupta's selection from the visually impaired quota. This came after a complaint was registered with the Haryana Public Service Commission in July

IAS officer Pooja Khedkar was recently dismissed from civil service for using forged documents during her selection in the Union Public Service Commission examination. Now, a similar case has come to light in Haryana.

Recently a petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against Haryana Civil Service officer Ashwini Gupta questioning his selection in the state civil service examination.

Ashwani Gupta had topped the recruitment exam in the visually impaired quota. However, recently a video of the civil service officer driving a car has surfaced drawing glaring questions at his ‘disability’. His driving license, issued in 2019, has been submitted in the court. Questions have been raised about his appointment under the visually impaired quota.

Ashwani Gupta who hails from Himachal Pradesh has a driving license issued from his home state. His ration card mentions that he is a resident of Parwanoo, in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district. The Haryana government has assured the High Court that the matter will be investigated first and then he will be appointed.

On June 18, 2024, the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) gave appointment letters to 112 selected candidates. However, a petition has now been filed in the High Court and questions were raised on the selection of Ashwani Gupta from the visually impaired quota. A complaint was also registered with HPSC in July.

During the hearing in the High Court, the petitioner claimed that Ashwani Gupta had furnished fraudulent information for his selection in Haryana Civil Service. The petition pointed out that though Ashwani has been selected from the visually impaired quota, he has a driving license and also drives a vehicle. The High Court has noted that the matter is serious and has sought a reply from the Haryana government.

There have been demands to investigate whether Ashwani, a permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh, had applied for permanent residency in Haryana. At present, Ashwani Gupta is working at Punjab National Bank.
