4 chains snatched, bike duo suspected

CHENNAI: Four chain-snatching cases reported in an area  in three hours involving 21 sovereigns sent shock waves across Kodungaiyur on Friday.Police said Annapoorani (62) of Kamaraj Nagar, was walking back home when two bike riders snatched her three-sovereign chain. Suvith John, a schoolteacher from Arul Nagar, was on her way back home when two men on a two-wheeler snatched her 10-sovereign gold chain.In another case,two robbers on a bike attempted to snatch a chain of Kalaiselvi. When the woman retaliated and the snatchers fled with three sovereigns of the six-sovereign chain leaving the rest of the thali with the woman. Vyjayanthi (62) of Thiruvallur Nagar was robbed of her five-sovereign chain by bike riders when she was giving food to her grandson. Police suspect that the same snatchers were involved in all the four casesas as they had all taken place between 4 pm and 7 pm and the complainants had claimed that the two-wheeler riders sported police style haircut.10 Sovereigns Stolen at VelacheryBhuvaneshwari(55) was drawing a ‘kolam’ in front of her house at Devaraj Street, Velachery, on Saturday when two persons on a two-wheeler snatched her 10-sovereign chain. Police are investigating.
