Amoebic meningoencephalitis is nearly always fatal with 97 per cent mortality rate.

A 3-and-a-half-year-old child has been confirmed to have amoebic meningoencephalitis.

The confirmation came from a test result received from Pondicherry last night. The kid is currently undergoing treatment at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode.

The child has been receiving treatment for the lethal infection for the past week.

Another 4-year-old is also hospitalized with a suspected case of amoebic meningoencephalitis.

In a rare development, a 14-year-old recovered from amoebic meningoencephalitis on Tuesday in Kerala.

State Health Minister Veena George announced that a 14-year-old boy undergoing treatment for the disease has recovered.

She described this as a rare occurrence in the country, given the high mortality rate of the disease.

Amoebic Meningoencephalitis: Rare, Deadly Infection

A highly rare but extremely lethal central nervous system infection, amoebic meningoencephalitis, has been identified as a threat to human health.

Caused by free-living amoebae, this deadly infection is typically contracted from freshwater sources such as lakes, rivers, and streams.
