Sashastra Seema Bal on Sunday seized over Rs 12 lakh Nepalese currency and held three persons, including two citizens of Nepal from a village on Indo-Nepal border in Bihar's East Champaran district, a police officer said.
A team of 13th battalion of SSB intercepted three persons riding a bike near Agarwa village and recovered Rs 12.025 lakh in Nepalese currency before arresting them, Deputy Superintendent of Police Umeshwar Chaudhary said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Deendayal Prasad Yadav (a Nepalese national), his son Rampravesh Yadav, who is an Indian national, and Rambhajan Yadav (Nepalese national), the DSP said.
The cash was being brought from Nepal for use in elections, Chaudhary said.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshmanan confirmed the seizure of large haul of Nepalese currency and said the accused were being questioned about the source of the cash and purpose for its end use.
