2G: No clean chit to Maran, CBI tells SC
There was a deliberate and undue delay on false ground by DoT in granting licenses to Aircel, CBI told the court.

New Delhi: Refuting media reports, which suggested that Dayanidhi Maran has been given a clean chit in the 2G case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the role of the former Union minister is still under investigation.

In fact the CBI told the apex court that the inquiry has reveled prima facie that Malaysian industrialists were in contact with Dayanidhi Maran and there was a deliberate and undue delay on false ground by DoT in granting licenses to Aircel. Once Aircel was taken over by Maxis, DoT speeded up the matter of giving license.

Undue favor was also shown to in allocation of spectrum to Aircel, the agency told the court.

The Supreme Court on Thursday heard an application by Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy seeking investigation against Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G case.

Lawyer Prashant Bhushan also leveled allegation against the CBI for not doing an honest investigation and also not filing chargesheet against Anil Ambani, Attorney General GE Vahanvati and Datacom.
