One of the most shocking incidents involving one of India's iconic hockey stars, Sardar Singh, can snowball into a major controversy after the current India captain's fiancee filed a police complaint of 'attempt to rape' against him.
The girl, who belongs to the UK but is of Indian origin, claims to have been physically and mentally harassed by Sardar who has refused to marry her even after the two got engaged last year at his native place in Sirsa.
The complainant's lawer, PS Hundal, confirmed to IBNLive that the girl approached them and that a complaint has been filed in the Kum Kalan police station in Ludhiana city.
The city's Police Commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the complaint. No FIR has been filed yet.
"She came to me 4-5 days ago and told she had met Sardar in London during the 2012 Olympics," Hundal said. "The attraction grew and they even had physical relations, after which she conceived.
"Sardar then asked her to abort, which she did...They even got engaged, but now he doesn't want to see her, is not taking her calls," the senior lawyer added.
"This is a case under Section 376 of the IPC. She has filed a complaint at the Kum Kalan police station...It's a cognisable offence. The police can file a case after a small inquiry," Hundal said.
Sardar, reportedly, hasn't denied relation with the girl but says there is no truth in the allegations of harassment and physical abuse.
Sardar himself is a DSP in Haryana, while the girl too plays hockey in England.
