London: Luis Suarez inspired Liverpool to a comfortable 3-1 victory over third-tier Exeter in the League Cup on Wednesday to advance to the third round.
The Uruguay forward volleyed in the opener after 23 minutes before teeing up Maxi Rodriguez and substitute Andy Carroll to score in the second half.
Daniel Nardiello pulled one back from the penalty spot for Exeter after he had been fouled by Martin Skrtel with 10 minutes to go.
All the other Premier League teams in action on Wednesday also went through.
Everton beat Sheffield United 3-1, Blackburn ousted Sheffield on Wednesday by the same scoreline and Bolton edged Macclesfield 2-1.
Liverpool's success produced Kenny Dalglish's 200th win in charge of the club, stretching back to his time as manager between 1985 and 1991.
The only bad point for Liverpool was midfielder Raul Meireles damaging his collar bone.
"I don't know how serious it is, but it'll be a few weeks," Dalglish said.
Suarez led the attack having started on the bench in Saturday's win at Arsenal.
Suarez volleyed home the opener despite the best efforts of Richard Duffy on the line to block it after goalkeeper Artur Krysiak had tipped Jordan Henderson's cross to the striker.
The second goal came 10 minutes into the second half when Suarez picked out Maxi at the second attempt to allow the midfielder to slot into the left corner.
The win was secured three minutes later as Suarez beat Troy Archibald-Henville before Carroll hit an unstoppable left-foot drive beyond Krysiak.
"I think you've seen with the players out there tonight that we've come here to do a job and we've done that," Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam said.
"It's going to be a difficult game coming down here but we've shown the right respect to Exeter, a good side, but done the job and that's the important thing for us. We've got good players who can play with each other."
