London: Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has contacted Chelsea to put an end to long-running speculation linking Luka Modric with a transfer to the west London club, according to boss Harry Redknapp.
The Croatian midfielder has been continually linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the transfer window, with Spurs having already reportedly rejected three bids for the 25-year-old, whilst the Blues have been widely expected to return with a further offer before the end of August.
Despite Modric routinely stating in the press his willingness to make the move across London, primarily to gain Champions League football, Spurs have so far refused to bow to the player's demands, with Levy since contacting Chelsea hierarchy to state his club's determination to hold onto the playmaker.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his team's game with Hearts, Redknapp said: "The chairman made another statement last night that he is definitely not going.
"He said he spoke to Chelsea and he told them, 'Let's put an end to this because it's not going to happen'."
Whilst Redknapp sympathises with Modric's uncertainty over his future, the 64-year-old believes the time may be nearing for the player to put aside his ambitions to move elsewhere and concentrate on the season ahead at White Hart Lane.
"I was chatting with (assistant manager) Joe Jordan about it and he said to me that Luka is going to find it difficult," he continued.
"He said he'll be sitting there thinking every week that he could be winning the Champions League or win the Premier League and earning 100,000 pounds more every week.
"That's the chance you have to take. We can all say he'll be all right, but nobody knows what's in his head.
"We don't know how he's going to feel but he's here and he has to get on with it now. He has to get on with it and be the great player he is."
