Barcelona: Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio suffered a gruesome ankle injury near the end of a 1-1 draw at Getafe in the Spanish league on Sunday.
The Argentine center back was running after the ball in the 76th minute when his left ankle doubled completely over, sending him to the turf in agony.
Team doctors and the medical staff at Alfonso Perez Stadium immediately rushed to attend to him before carrying him off the pitch on a stretcher.
The club has yet to issue a medical report.
Villarreal took the lead when Ikechuwku Uche fired in a spot kick in the 52nd that the striker had earned when fouled by Mehdi Lacen in the area. That goal ended a four-game scoring drought for the team.
Getafe midfielder Diego Castro headed the hosts level in the 64th.
