New Delhi: Buoyant after a dazzling victory over Chennaiyin FC, Delhi Dynamos would look to continue the winning momentum when they take on NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday.
Delhi are a confident unit after recording their first victory in the season - a sound 4-1 win over Chennai on Saturday and are currently on fourth place with five points.
Delhi's Dutch coach Harm van Veldhoven has always talked about his team's ability to score goals but his boys have somehow not been able to prove that on the field. But their last outing against a quality side like Chennai has broke the shackles and has given them the kind of tempo they were desperately searching for.
However, NorthEast would be a tough nut to crack considering they won two out of four matches they have played so far. The visitors are also on a high after beating Mumbai City FC 2-0 in their first away match.
Delhi coach Veldhoven is likely to stick to the winning formula, and Brazilian Gustavo Dos Santos, who scored a goal just after coming onto the field in the 89th minute through a solo effort, is expected to be given more playing time.
In the midfield, the trio of Hans Mulder, Bruno Herrero and Steven Dias did a commendable job agains Chennai while Alessandro Del Piero, Shylo Malswamtluanga and Mads Junker stood out in the attack.
Another positive thing for Delhi would be former India international Dias' coming back to form in the last match. Dias found his touch in his first start in the tournament as he created the inch-perfect floater for Junker to score a spectacular goal through a diving header.
The Dynamos would also hope that their marquee player and Italian great Del Piero, who has been far from his class in the three matches he has featured in so far, too joins the party.
On the other hand, NorthEast, led by former Spain defender Joan Capdevilla, are a balanced side with a blend of good foreign and international players.
Their attack will once again revolve around former Marseille player Sergio Contreras Pardo of Spain, better known as Koke.
NorthEast defence was impressive against Mumbai City FC with 36-year-old Capdevilla marshalling his troops in the back, offering little room to the opposition. It will be interesting to see how the Dynamos breach that wall with their threatening, quality raiders.
