Irani Cup 2024 to be Relocated From Mumbai; Ahmedabad or Lucknow Tipped to be New Venues: Report
The Irani Cup could be relocated from Mumbai as the city continues the extended monsoon period.

The highly anticipated Irani Cup fixture in the Indian Domestic Cricket calendar is set to be relocated from Mumbai due to the city’s unfavourable weather conditions.

According to a report by the Times of India, the venue will be relocated to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad or the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced the 2024-25 domestic cricket schedule which had the Irani Cup tie being held in Mumbai. However since the city is facing an extended monsoon period, it would mean that the city would not be able to host the crucial five-day fixture.

The Irani Cup tie would see the defending Ranji Trophy Champions, Mumbai take on the Rest of India. Mumbai, led by the experienced international cricketer, Ajinkya Rahane were able to beat Vidarbha by 169 runs at the Wankhede Stadium to claim their 42nd title.

The Rest of India (ROI) team would comprise of players across several states barring the champion state. The one-off fixture is scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 5.

The Indian domestic season is currently underway with the Duleep Trophy 2024. Several Team India stars along with some of the best performers in the domestic scene have been split across four teams to take each other on in a round-robin format with the top two teams progressing to the final.

Musheer Khan for India-B has been the standout player so far as he has amassed a score above 150 and continues his innings, possibly targeting a double-hundred. With the ball, Harshit Rana representing India-D has had a terrific outing by picking up four wickets so far.

Most of the international stars have not had much of a say in their respective fixtures barring the likes of Axar Patel who scored 86 runs with the bat and picked up 2 wickets with the ball so far.

Indian domestic cricket has been the platform through which several international stars have been uncovered who went on to shine on the big stages against some top-quality oppositions across the globe.
