All eyes were on the IPL 2024 auctions, as the sides look to bolster their respective squads to improve their chances to get their hands on the title. A crucial part to building their squads is the overseas players.
Eight foreign players are permitted in the 25-man squad for each franchise. However, some notable players were not able to make the cut. International players like South Africa’s Rilee Roussow, Nandre Burger, Afghanistan’s Mohammed Nabi and West Indies’ Shai Hope were fortunate enough to get picked in the accelerated round in the auctions.
Younger overseas players like Harry Brook and Gerald Coetzee found spots in Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians for 4 crores and 5 crores respectively.
Australia’s Spencer Johnson who is a left-arm pacer picked up a mammoth bid worth 10 crores by the Gujarat Titans which was very surprising considering his international experience. The Aussie pacer has only played 2 T20s and 1 ODI for the Australian side so far.
Even the uncapped English wicket-keeper batter, Tom Kohler-Cadmore found a spot in the Rajasthan Royals squad who bid for him with a base price of 40 lakhs.
While many stars like Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were picked up for big price tags, there were several overseas players that were not able to get a spot in the side as the franchises opted to not go for a bid. Fans and experts alike would be very surprised to see the various international players who did not make it into the squad.
