Reliance Communications has launched a new scheme that connects all state capitals at local call rates.

Mumbai: Reliance Communications has launched a new scheme that connects all state capitals at local call rates. The Hello Capital Plan offers a call charge of 40 paise per minute. It is applicable on both post-paid and pre-paid tariff plans.

SP Shukla, Head of Reliance Communications- Wireless division says the Hello Capital Plan is really 'death of distance' in communication.

Excerpts with CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with SP Shukla:

Q: What is this new 40-paisa tariff plan that you have announced?

A: Today's announcement is really, death of distance in communication.

Any Reliance Hello-customer can call another Reliance Hello-customer anywhere in the country, in the 19 major cities, which are the State capitals like Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata.

He can call at local call rates, meaning a 3-minute call will only cost the customer Rs 1.20 paisa.

The beauty of this scheme is that there is no new subscription to be taken, no scheme changes over charges, and there are absolutely no conditions whatsoever. From midnight today, the new scheme comes into force.

So when customers call one another in these 19 cities, they can easily identify it with the STD code followed by the 32 number of Reliance Hello. They will know that they are calling a local call

Q: Could you give us more clarity as to what kind of incremental market share you have been getting on some of these key markets on the wireless front over the last couple of months?

A: Numbers have been growing by leaps and bound. As you know in the telecomm business, we don't talk percentage growth. We talk in terms of multiplying things. In India, the growth story has been intact in telecomm and subscriber basis has been doubling year on year. The same story is repeating in wireless space.

Q: Has any further progress happened on the CDMA to GSM switch discussion?

A: We are committed to providing best services to our customers at most affordable prices, notwithstanding the portfolio of the technologies, which we have.

So the technology doesn't matter. The customer recognises the service. Today's announcement of death of distance between two Reliance-Hello phones is another proof of what technology can deliver to customer when handled properly with consumer interest in mind.

What's your reaction?
