Mumbai: The markets ended higher on selective buying in index pivotals. The Sensex closed at 13,091.12 up 58.08 points or 0.5 per cent. The Nifty gained 24 points to close at 3791.
About 1188 shares have advanced, 1284 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,467.80 up 24 points or 0.4 per cent.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,469.99 up 18.51 points or 0.34 per cent.
The BSE Bankex was up 0.7 per cent at 6,545.72. Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Oriental Bank, UTI Bank, Andhra Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.8 per cent at 8,806.83. HEG, SKF India, Ingersoll Rand, Siemens, Crompton Greave and Alfa Laval closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.7 per cent at 3,661.63. Glenmark, Cadila Health, Sterling Bio, Dr Reddys Labs, Orchid Chemical closed higher.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1.9 per cent to close at 6,252.19. Chennai Petro, HPCL, Reliance Natura, BPCL ended in green.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,392.91 up 0.64 per cent. Cummins, Tube Investment, Maruti Udyog, MICO and Bajaj Auto gained.
The BSE Metal Index was down 0.7 per cent to close at 9,050.55. JSW Steel, Nalco, Sesa Goa, Guj NRE Coke and Sterlite Ind slipped
The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.6 per cent at 2,052.14. Dabur India, McDowell, Colgate, Shaw Wallace and HLL closed in green.
The BSE IT Index lost 0.8 per cent at 4,782.05. Patni Computer, HCL Tech, Wipro, Infosys and Satyam advanced.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7351.32 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 23807.08 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3974.23 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 35132.63 crore.
