Mumbai: The markets closed flat on the first day of the week; it opened in the red showed some recovery but slipped in the negative terrain again.
There were tremors across Asian markets on account of North Korean news on nuclear test.
The Sensex closed at 12,365.83 down 7 points. The Nifty was down 3 points to close at 3567.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,403.88 up 75 points or 1.18 per cent.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,298.68 up 34 points 0.65 per cent.
The BSE Bankex was down 0.3 per cent at 6,063.17. UTI Bank, Centurion BoP, Oriental Bank, Union Bank, ICICI Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 0.4 per cent to close at 5,646.72. MRPL, Reliance Natural, HPCL, Chennai Petro and Petronet LNG closed lower.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1 per cent at 8,326.54. Praj Industries, Thermax, Lakshmi Machine, BEML, Alfa Laval, HEG closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index gained 0.3 per cent at 5,489.46. Apollo Tyres, MRF, MICO, Escorts, Ashok Leyland were among the top gainers.
The BSE FMCG Index fell 0.07 per cent at 2,026.13. McDowell, HLL, Tata Tea closed in red.
The BSE Health Care Index rose 0.5 per cent at 3,639.83. Glenmark, Divis Labs, Novartis India, Cipla and Orchid Chemical advanced.
The BSE IT Index was up 0.7 per cent at 4,433.26. Mphasis BFL, Infosys, TCS, Hexaware Tech and Wipro closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index was flat at 8,676.57.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5757.81 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 21720.88 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3341.33 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 30820.02 crore.
