Mumbai: The markets closed at new highs for a second day on Wednesday. The Sensex closed above the 13,700, and Nifty breached 3950 levels.
The midcap and smallcap indices held out as well. Power and power equipment stocks had a strong close. Siemens was the star performer it received an order of Rs 40 billion in transmission and distribution segment.
Top gainers on the Sensex were Satyam at Rs 473.20 up 4.40 percent, Reliance Energy at Rs 552.90 up 3.78 percent and Wipro at Rs 587.20 up 3.25 percent, followed by Hero Honda.
Top losers on the Sensex are ITC at Rs 181.50 down 1.28 percent, HLL at Rs 246.05 down 1.01 percent and Infosys at Rs 2,234.95 down 0.76 percent
Top losers on the Nifty are HPCL at Rs 317.00 down 2.87 percent, BPCL at Rs 371.15 down 2.33 percent and Oriental Bank at Rs 243.00 down 2.1 percent
Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 246.05 down 1.01 percent from its previous close of Rs 248.55.
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,284.90 up 0.86 percent from its previous close of Rs 1,273.90.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,234.95 down 0.76 percent from its previous close of Rs 2,252.00.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 181.50 down 1.28 percent from its previous close of Rs 183.85.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 316.75 down 2.49 percent from its previous close of Rs 324.85.
