Air-Sahara pilots call off strike
Air Sahara pilots on Tuesday called off their three-day strike after reaching a consensus with the management.

New Delhi: Pilots of Air Sahara on Tuesday night called off their three-day agitation after the management of the private carrier accepted their demand for the waiver of the mandatory six-month notice period for quitting.

This was agreed at a daylong meeting between the pilots and the Air Sahara management led by Seemanto Roy, son of Subroto Roy, sources in the striking pilots said in New Delhi.

The two sides have agreed on several measures to assure the pilots over their future after the sell-off to Jet Airways.

Sources say Air Sahara has agreed to waive a six-month notice to be served by any pilot wanting to quit.

It will also provide a golden handshake to any pilot who decides to leave. Modalities for the golden handshake would be worked out by the pilots and the management.

The Air Sahara pilots are apparently paid higher salaries than those of Jet and they fear that they would face pay cuts following the selloff to Jet.

They also demanded their seniority be protected in the new entity following the acquisition.

There are also reports that 20 Air Sahara pilots had joined Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines.

On Tuesday, Air Sahara cancelled 13 flights from Delhi due to the strike. The flights of Air Sahara are likely to resume as per schedule from Wednesday.

The agitation had severely disrupted flights of Air Sahara for the last three days leaving thousands of passengers stranded across the country.

The pilots had reported "sick" on Sunday and wanted Air Sahara to give a 'No Objection Certificate' to them so that they could join any other airline of their choice.

Such an NoC would get round the latest Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) which entails that a pilot should give a six-month notice for quitting unless the airline allows him to do so.
