Imtiaz Ali Wishes Tamasha's Ved, Tara 'Hadn’t Gotten Together': 'Ideal Ending Would Have Been If...'
Imtiaz Ali also added that Geet and Aditya from Jab We Met would be headed to divorce today.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is known for creating classic love stories wherein two lovers reunite after a moment of conflict and realization. Be it Jab We Met, Tamasha or Love Aaj Kal 2, all films follow this central trope. However, while the couples end up together in Imtiaz’s films, the filmmaker believes that not all of their stories should have had a happy ending.

Speaking at The Indian Express’ event recently, Imtiaz said that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s characters in Tamasha should not have ended up together. He said, “You know the ideal ending of Tamasha would have been if they hadn’t gotten together but he would have still idolized her as his muse. I wish that was the ending actually but that thought came a little late so in that scenario they would be separate and she would always be watching his shows but not telling him that she had come for it.” However, Imtiaz said that “they would be doing shows together” as per the film’s ending.

Speaking about where Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Geet and Shahid Kapoor’s Aditya from Jab We Met would be today, he said, “At a divorce lawyer’s office.” Imtiaz also had an interesting outlook on Ranbir Kapoor’s Jordan from Rockstar. While Imtiaz believed that Jordan would have made it big in the music industry, there is a catch. “I think he would have become a corrupt music industry head. Like he would have his own company and he would be completely fake and corrupt,” he said.

Imtiaz Ali’s film’s characters have found immense reliability among the youth, especially Geet. Taapsee Pannu, who was also present at the event, spoke about why she was drawn to Kareena’s character. She said, “The relatability quotient for an actress has never been higher than that for someone like me at that point because here I was seeing everyone so picture perfect, dressed well and just looking like a million bucks and talking perfectly, everything that needs to be said in the right way. And Geet was someone who is so relatable because she is so improper but that was the reason why she was so enduring.”

“She is so politically incorrect in a lot of situations so the relatability quotient of that heroine was so high. That is the reason for me to make it a part of my pop culture and hence it intrigued an audience like me. It made me ask, ‘Ye kisne banaya hai (Who has made this?)’ To make this kind of character loveable who is just so odd, hence the intrigue and knowing the brand called Imtiaz Ali and keeping an eye out for his work,” she added.
