Suzuki has decided to put a complete full stop on the sale of 3-door Jimny in the European market. The company will stop production from next year. The move has been taken due to low sales and strict emission norms.
The current model reportedly produces higher CO2 levels between 154g/km to 170g/km (higher than average), all depending on the gearbox. These figures forced the company to take the step.
Europe only allows the N1 category passenger vehicles for sale. The brand sold Jimny in the above-mentioned category as a commercial vehicle in many European countries, which offers only two seats.
More Focus on BEVs
It has been reported that the company might introduce the latest models under the segment, which will fully comply with the emission norms Amid this, the primary focus will be given to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), allowing the customers to have more options to choose from.
Jimny 5-Door Sale
While the 3-door Jimny’s journey comes to an end in Europe, the model along with the 5-door avatar, which is exclusively made in India, will continue to be on sale in other markets. The India-made version will continue to be exported to the international market without any barriers.
Engine
For those who are unaware, both European and Indian spec Jimny share the same powertrain. It uses a K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission.
