After several delays, the much-needed repair work on the Sarita Vihar Flyover is set to begin on June 10.
This project, which will last for 60 days, is planned in four phases to minimize traffic disruptions between Delhi and Faridabad.
The repair work, originally scheduled for June 2023, was postponed but will now proceed in a systematic way. Each phase will partially close one direction of the flyover while the other side remains open for vehicles.
This approach aims to reduce congestion for the millions of commuters using Mathura Road daily.
The repair schedule is as follows:
- Phase 1: Repair the half-lane from Ashram to Faridabad.
- Phase 2: Fix the other half of the same direction.
- Phases 3 and 4: Work on the lanes from Faridabad to Ashram.
The repairs were supposed to start on May 1 but got delayed due to the Lok Sabha elections. With the new dates set, officials are hopeful to finish within the 60-day timeframe, as per India.com.
However, the repairs could lead to significant traffic jams in areas like Badarpur, Sarita Vihar, Kalindi Kunj, Okhla, and Faridabad. To ease the congestion, traffic police are preparing alternative routes for commuters.
Last year, similar construction on the Ashram flyover extension caused traffic chaos on Mathura Road for nearly two months. Authorities are hopeful that this time, with better planning, the disruptions will be more manageable.
