International Women’s Day 2021: Cricketer’s Take to Social Media to Wish all Women on Special Day
The first observance of Women's Day dates to 1908, when close to 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York demanding lesser working hours, right to vote and also equal and better salary.

The world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8, to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally. Women are a very important and crucial part of society, right from the inception of new life to fulfilling all her roles in personal and professional life in the best way possible, making the term multitasking look easy.

The first observance of Women’s Day dates to 1908, when close to 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York demanding lesser working hours, right to vote and also equal and better salary. A year later, at the Socialist International meeting in Copenhagen, the day was declared as the National Women’s Day by Socialist Party of America. Decades later,the United Nations adopted March 8as the International Women’s Day in 1975. Since then, the day is celebrated all over the world.

Commemorating the International Women’s Day, the cricket fraternity extended their wishes and here’s a look at some of them.

Leading from the front on-field as well as on social media, Team India skipper Virat Kohli in a post on Instagram penned an emotional note while extending his wishes. He also mentioned his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika on the occasion.

Swashbuckling batsman Shreyas Iyer too took to the photo-video sharing platform to wish women. Iyer posted couple of photos in which he can been posing with his mother and a childhood photo that shows him feeding a piece of cake to his sister. “Happy Women’s Day,”Iyer wrote in the caption.

Long format specialist Ajinkya Rahane, who led Team India to a memorable Test series win in Australia recently, took to Twitter to wish on the International Women’s Day. Rahane in his tweet wrote that he is feels “lucky to be surrounded by many strong women” in his life and thanked them all for his unending support.

Dinesh Karthik and former cricketer VVS Laxman, were the other cricketers who extended their wishes on this special day. Karthik posted a photo with his wife — squash ace Dipika Pallikal and wrote, “You Make This World a Better Place,”on Twitter.

While Laxman tweeted and wrote, “Women Are Our Strength and Inspiration.”
