Woman Called Thief For Accepting Neighbour's Parcel
Woman Called Thief For Accepting Neighbour's Parcel
The woman shared her story on Mumsnet, saying a delivery driver asked her to hold a package for a neighbour since her gate was open.

A woman felt embarrassed after she kindly accepted a package for her neighbour, only to be wrongly accused of stealing it. Being friendly, like greeting neighbours or accepting deliveries for them, should be simple. However, this situation turned sour when the neighbour mistakenly attacked her on Facebook for her good deed. She looked for advice on how to respond and even thought about showing video proof to clear her name and show that she did nothing wrong.

The woman shared her story on Mumsnet, saying a delivery driver asked her to hold a package for a neighbour since her gate was open. This happened around 8:30 PM. The next morning, at 6:50 AM, she was startled by loud knocking from the same neighbour, a man in his 40s. He abruptly demanded his package without greeting her. When she was moving the package towards the door to give it to him, he accused her of pretending it was too heavy as an excuse for not delivering it to him the previous night, suggesting she was too lazy to do so.

The woman explained that she was just as surprised and mentioned to him that he wasn’t available to receive the package, which is why the delivery driver left it with her. The neighbour claimed he was home but didn’t answer the door because it was raining and he was having dinner. He argued she should have respected him enough to bring the parcel over later. When she laughed, thinking he was joking, he insulted her, calling her a “waste of space.” He also slandered her on the village’s Facebook group, falsely accusing her of being a thief and warning others to be wary of her taking their deliveries.

The woman noted that she had recorded their entire interaction on her doorbell camera, capturing both their conversation and his aggressive behaviour. She’s considering whether to share this video on Facebook to clear her name and is seeking opinions on Mumsnet about whether it would be inappropriate to do so.

In the comments section, one person said that she should post the footage on Facebook, highlighting how disrespectful it was for her neighbour to call her a thief after she had done him a favour. They also advised her never to accept his parcels again. Another person agreed, strongly supporting the idea of sharing the doorbell camera footage.
