Swedish social media influencer Elvira Lundgren decided to be a little adventurous as she did a bold experiment, by transforming her hair into an ice crown by dipping it in water during the chilling -30°C temperatures in northern Sweden. Little did she know then that her experiment would align when the country was experiencing its coldest January night in 25 years, as temperatures dropped to -40°C in certain regions of Sweden and Finland. The severe cold disrupted daily life and caused disturbances in rail and road traffic. Elvira’s video features the everyday challenges people face amid such harsh weather conditions and the video has quickly gone viral.

Elvira’s viral video captures her hair completely frozen, resembling a crown, as she steps outside in -30°C weather. In the brief clip, she attempts to hold her hair up, but it continuously falls down. The video also features close ups of her frozen hair, which has left social media users shocked. Shared on Instagram, the video has crossed over 93 lakh views and received numerous likes. Sharing the video, the Swedish influencer wrote, “Temperatures have reached -30°C and I just had to do a little experiment.”

Reacting to the video, a user asked, “Did your mother never tell you that you’ll get your death from a cold going out with wet hair like that?”

Another wrote, “I always wondered how it feels to stand that low temperature.”

A user joked, “She went full Super Saiyan.”

“No need for hair gel. Legend,” a comment read.

An individual shared, “-30 without a cap and warm clothes? Good luck to you.”

A social media junkie added, “Touching it can break it.”

“It’s the coldest temperature we have had so far this winter and it will continue to be quite cold in the north,” SVT meteorologist Nils Holmqvist told Euro News.

The portal reported that in the village of Nikkaluokta in northern Sweden, temperatures fell to -41.6 degrees Celsius, while in Kvikkjokk-Arrenjarka, it dropped to -43.6 degrees. These extreme freezing temperatures happened after a warmer autumn recorded in most of Europe, which was reported as the warmest year on record. The massive shift in temperatures is associated with global warming and climate change.

Authorities issued a strict warning as temperatures are expected to stay below -40 degrees throughout the week. In Denmark, police advised drivers to refrain from taking unnecessary trips due to risky travel conditions caused by wind and snow. The severe weather has prompted the closure of several schools in the region and disruptions to transportation services, as trains and ferry services are temporarily suspended.
