Making a living via food delivery is not easy and most food delivery agents rely on tips to stay afloat. Recently, YouTuber Steven Schapiro made a video in which he surprised many food delivery agents by giving them a hefty tip of 500 US dollars (approximately Rs 41,000). Steven first placed an order from DoorDash, USA’s largest food delivery app, but instead of letting the driver drive all the way to his house, he met them right outside the restaurant from where they picked up his order. Steven then accepted his order and offered them the big tip.
The YouTuber made excuses about why he placed his order via an app when he was right in front of the restaurant. He told one person that he was not allowed to meet the person who manned the counter at the restaurant, while he told other delivery agents that he has massive social anxiety so he avoids speaking to the restaurant staff. While many delivery agents accepted the big tip, a few got overwhelmed and expressed hesitation.
A retired nurse who was working as a DoorDash agent initially refused to take the tip. She said, “That is too much" when she saw the cash. Throughout the video, Steven met many people who were in need of financial assistance. An old man told him that he uses his door dash earnings to support a local baseball team. Needless to say, Steven made many people’s day.
This video has over two lakh views since it was posted on March 24, 2024. Commenting on his video, a YouTube user wrote, “The nurse was such an amazing and understanding person! So happy she was chosen to be given that money! Very well deserved!" Another commented, “I love that guy who is working for DoorDash just to support a local baseball team. And the fact that you happened to run into him to give him the big tip was a full circle moment. I know those kids will enjoy that baseball equipment."
Many people praised Steven for helping people in his pursuit of making YouTube videos. A person wrote, “This was one of the more heartfelt videos done! It’s always amazing to watch you make someone’s day better!" Another mentioned, “Thanks for spreading awareness and also showing the struggle real Americans are going through these last few years."
