'Reality is Different': Vikrant Massey's 'Education' Dialogue in '12th Fail' Leaves Fans Unconvinced
12th Fail: Vikrant Massey's dialogue, pointing out connection between uneducated villagers and politicians, leaves internet divided.

The buzz around Vikrant Massey’s ’12th Fail’ is no secret, thanks to its riveting storyline and stellar performances that have caught the world’s attention. Across the vast expanse of the internet, users are hailing it as a cinematic gem, labelling it as one of the most remarkable releases in recent memory. Social media platforms are ablaze with snippets from this Vidhu Vinod Chopra masterpiece, with fans showcasing the moments that left them spellbound—moments too grand to fit into mere words.

However, amid the shower of accolades, there emerges a resounding dialogue that packs a punch. In the midst of an interview, Manoj Kumar Sharma (brought to life by Vikrant Massey) drops a truth bomb: “If the citizens were educated, it could be a real problem for the leaders.”

For those uninitiated, Sharma’s remark was in response to questions about the entrenched cheating practices in his village. He declared it a ‘custom’ that would persist because those in power prioritise ‘votes’ over education. According to him, convincing the ‘knowns’ to change this custom would be an uphill battle once people are educated. The dialogue, a perfect snapshot of the education system in Indian villages for some, has its fair share of detractors who argue it’s detached from reality.

“I don’t think makers understand the life of UPSC aspirants or how the whole system is and what is the interview process,” critiqued one user. Another threw in their two cents, asserting, “‘Education” is NOT the same as ‘critical thinking ability.’ There might be a small overlap.” The third voice chimed in, “The dialogue is written just to get claps, but reality could be different,” while the fourth one opined, “No connection with education; it’s all about wisdom.”

In the midst of these debates, there are staunch supporters of the dialogue and its overarching perspective. One argued, “I don’t get the qrts being mad; the man is obviously talking about basic education. You don’t have to refute every claim out there; it doesn’t make you sound smart.” Another offered, “The film’s biggest takeaway is what qualifies as ‘education.’ It’s not just about literacy or certificates. It means gaining the skill to acquire and assimilate information—gaining perspective. It’s disheartening that this important point seems lost on most.”

Nevertheless, the journey of ’12th Fail’ took an interesting turn. Two months before its OTT release, it graced theatres with a decent box office performance. However, its true love poured in during the OTT release, and Vikrant Massey’s phenomenal performance took the narrative to extraordinary heights!
