Laid-Off Indian-Origin Techie, Working In US, Recalls Being Replaced By Indians
An India-origin software engineer was laid off from his job in the US as the company wanted to hire "cheap labour".

Job layoffs have become increasingly common, particularly in the tech industry. Companies are resorting to terminating large workforces due to reasons like overstaffing, outsourcing and cost-cutting. This was the case for an India-born software engineer in the US who was laid off and replaced by another Indian. Sharing his experience on social media, the techie opened up about being laid off and replaced.

The one-minute video begins with the engineer introducing himself and revealing that he was recently laid off. “I’m a software engineer. I work in tech, or at least I used to work in tech until recently until my whole team got laid off,” he says. He then recalls his exit interview with his employers, during which he was informed that the company was replacing his position, as well as his entire team’s, with employees working in India.

Shocked upon hearing this, the man mentioned that he too is Indian, in an attempt to retain his job, but unfortunately, it was to no avail.

“If you keep me around, I’m already Indian, right? We can get rid of these crackers and replace them with my friends,” he pitched to the company, even offering to relocate to India if they wanted. It was then that his employers informed him that they were seeking individuals who would work for lower salaries.

“They are like, ‘no, no, no, you don’t get it. We are getting rid of you. We are moving the job to India to be done by Indians, who will do it cheaper there,” the man recalled the conversation.

His video went instantly viral, leaving the internet divided. A user wrote, “It’s not that you’re Indian it’s that you are now 90% less expensive,” while another commented, “At least he didn’t have to train them before he was fired…there’s that.”

“Bro doesn’t get it. he’s being laid off because he’s expensive,” another user remarked, while a comment read, “It’s always hilarious when an ultra “progressive” gets a heavy-handed reality check.” The video has garnered over 3 million views with more than 35,000 likes on the microblogging platform.

There are many layoff stories circulating on the internet, showcasing how employees across various fields have been terminated recently. In a recent example, Google laid off nearly 200 employees from its “core team” and also shifted some jobs overseas as part of cost-cutting measures.
