Remember Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning catch in the final of the T20 World Cup? While the entire country witnessed the epic moment that led to lifting the trophy earlier this year, fans still dub it as one of the greatest catches in history. But it seems like RPG Enterprises chairman Harsh Goenka thinks otherwise. The billionaire businessman recently took to his social media handle and shared his personal favourite catch.
With a clip from the Big Bash League match from 2023 between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, Goenka was seen lauding Michael Neser’s controversial boundary catch. “This is the most amazing catch I have seen- even better than the catch SKY had taken,” he wrote, leaving social media users divided.

In the video, Neser could be seen showing similar fielding skills as SKY, as he caught the ball within the boundary, only to step outside the line and step in again to complete the catch. While the effort was deemed as fair by the umpires, leading to Jordan Silk’s dismissal, the decision was largely discussed on social media as many criticised the rule.
Years after the events, fans are still unimpressed with the catch as many rejected Goenka’s comparison between Yadav and Neser. A user wrote, “He had enough time and room to take it. Sure he had presence of mind, but SKY did it in far less time and space.”

Another argued, “Sir, presence of mind for sure, but @ICC needs to get their technicalities in practical order for legal catches. This should have been given not out. Player tossing the ball multiple times while being outside the official playing area. This doesn’t seem right.”

“SKY catch context or the game & this is chalk & cheese ..SKY catch is the greatest piece of athleticism ever,” another comment read.

A user agreed with Goenka’s take and wrote, “Wow !! Absolutely sir what A catch He Had Taken!! Superb.”

A user explained why Suryakumar Yadav’s catch holds more significance, “Sorry! It is a better juggling not a better catch than SKY as that catch was full of pressure at a very very crucial point of the final.”

Amid the debate, a user jokingly wrote, “With major advances in technology, soon they might be able to take catches in Mumbai for matches played in Adelaide.”
