Basic etiquette says that while hosting a party at one’s place, the host should ready the food for their guests. BYOB, aka, bring your bottle is generally a norm at some places but bringing your food? Imagine the shock on this hungry woman’s face when she was invited over to dinner at her friend’s place, only to find out that the host did not make any food. It left her confused. She called the situation ‘bonkers.’ What will further leave you bewildered is that the host was shocked to see her friend arriving with no food for herself.
The woman took to the Mumsnet forum to talk about this situation. She explained that just a few days back, she had invited the friend over to her home and cooked various dishes that included a few traditional recipes like sausage rougail and chicken cari and a dessert. Naturally, when the friend called her over to her house for dinner, she expected a similar treatment. So, she arrived with a small jar of chilli peppers. However, seeing this, when the invitee asks her if this is all she is going to eat, the Mumsnet user is left baffled. The invitee explained that it was an “everyone brings their own food” sort of party.
At this point, she was quite annoyed. She wrote, “I told them I thought they had invited me for dinner and they go ‘Yes, we invited you to come to the house for dinner!’. But, looks like the penny did not drop for the hosts. Instead, they asked to ‘not worry’ as they would share some food with them. It was raw carrots, aubergines and cherry tomatoes with white sauce. “They then served each other the meal they had made for themselves and dug in,” wrote the woman on the media platform.
This incident did not sit well with the internet. They shared their own nightmare dinner stories. A user commented that they were once invited to a party where they had all offered to bring food, but were asked to just bring drinks. They were never served any food. Another user shared a “weird story” where they went to a friend’s house with a bottle of wine, which got over after some time when they asked for a refill, the host offered squash or milk.
