Apple Wants Users To Feel Safe While Using Public Wi-Fi In Cafe And Airports: Here’s How
Apple continues to file patents for new tech features that could be of use to iPhone and Mac users if they ever release.

Public Wi-Fi networks are a big security threat that can attack any smartphone user connecting to their Wi-Fi. But Apple wants to help its users by keeping them safe from such networks and allowing them to see the level of security offered by many networks in their vicinity. The company has filed for a patent that will focus on ranking the Wi-Fi networks based on their security and nature.

Apple Wi-Fi Ranking Patent – What It Could Offer

The patent filed by Apple with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) looks at a future where the iPhone is able to intercept different Wi-Fi networks near you and determine which of the Wi-Fi is worth using without worrying about your safety. Apple will ensure the whole process is done without identifying the person and their location which could end up becoming a serious privacy red flag.

The ranking of the Wi-Fi network is also a good way to gauge its quality, strength of the network and how secure it is to use. If your iPhone does detect any safe Wi-Fi network in the vicinity, it will raise a prompt to the user asking them whether they would like to connect to the network. Most patents don’t make it through and are scrapped for one reason or another.

But knowing how dangerous the public Wi-Fi networks can become, this is a patent that we would like to see Apple bring to the market in some form for its users. In fact, it won’t be a bad idea to see Android also adopt a similar network ranking system, however, without tracking the users connected to them.

What's your reaction?
