New Delhi: Co-founder of the most popular mobile operating system, Andy Rubin, is reportedly interested to move beyond developing software to bring out a full-fledged device.
Rubin, man behind the Android software before Google embraced it, is interested in developing an Android handset and he is trying to hire people for the new venture.
A report on The Verge notes that it is unclear if Rubin would take a leadership role at the new venture, but in all likelihood, it could be funded by his own startup incubator, Playground Fund, which he founded this year after exiting from Google.
Rubin has invested money in artificial intelligence and smart home initiatives, however, he still sees the Android phone market as a ripe area for new business.
A lot of new players have been trying their luck in the Android market like OnePlus and Nextbit Robin, and Rubin's new venture would take advantage of the industry trends, which have made easier to produce and launch new brands in recent years.
Rubin left Google in 2013 and handed over the Android division to Sundar Pichai. He later left Google officially in November 2014 after overseeing the company's secretive acquisition of numerous high-profile robotics startups.
