Police said that the driver of the tanker was arrested under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act

In a horrifying accident, three-year-old twin sisters were killed and their parents were injured when a petrol tanker crashed into their scooter in Pune’s Vishrantiwadi Chowk on Monday evening.

Police said that the 40-year-old Satish Kumar Jha was riding his two wheeler with his wife and three-year-old twin daughters when he stopped at the Chowk’s traffic signal, an NDTV report said.

A petrol tanker — as soon as the light turned green — came from behind and crashed into the scooter and in the movement, the twins and their mother fell onto the ground and came under its wheels. Reportedly, the twin sisters were killed on the spot, while both the parents were injured due to the crash.

This shocking accident was caught on CCTV cameras installed the area. Video clips of the incident show that people present at the scene immediately rushed to help the family before emergency services arrived at the spot and took the family to a hospital.

The mother, who suffered critical injuries, is currently being treated at Sassoon Hospital, while the father suffered some minor injuries.

The petrol tank driver has been arrested. “The tanker hit the motorcycle immediately after the signal turned green at the chowk,” police said, adding that the driver of the tanker was arrested under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.

4 ROAD ACCIDENTS IN LAST TWO DAYS

Yesterday, two students — on the way to school — were killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr when the motorcycle they were riding in was hit by a speeding truck from behind, police said.

The father of one of the deceased children was riding the bike, they added.

According to the police, Aarzoo and Gaurav, both residents of Nayabans village under Syana police station, died in the accident.

The accident took place at 7:30 am, said Bhaskar Kumar, Circle Office of Syana.

The injured children were taken to the hospital, where they were declared dead by the doctors, the CO said. He added that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for

post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck was still on the run.

On October 15, a total of 18 People were killed in three separate accidents in Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

In an accident at Ananthur bypass road near Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvannamalai, eight people including four men, two women and two children were killed when their car met with a head on collision with a truck.

The dead include the driver of the car and seven people of a family. The local police at Tiruvannamalai registered a case.

The driver of the truck that hit the car fled from the scene of the accident.

In the other accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, Three labourers were killed and two persons injured when a car rammed into a tractor-trolley on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the afternoon on National Highway no. 44 under Noorabad police station area, some 15 km from the district headquarters, an official said Police inspector RB Yadav said three labourers, aged between 38 years and 42 years, were on board a tractor-trolley when a car crashed into it from behind.

The third accident, which took place in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district, killed seven people and left eight others injured.

The accident — collision between a truck and a cruiser jeep — took place near the Ratanpur border, local Bicchiwada police station SHO Madanlal said.

He said all seven died on the spot and three people with severe injuries were referred to Dungarpur. Madanlal said senior police and administration officials, including District Collector Laxmi Narayan Mantri and Superintendent of Police Kundan Kanwaria, reached the spot and took the injured to a hospital.

Police said 21 people were travelling in the vehicle that was headed to Ahmedabad from Dungarpur while one of the occupants claimed that some people were even sitting on the roof.

“Some of the passengers were sitting on the roof of the MUV when the accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle was also killed,” he said.
