Man Arrested For Harassing South Korean Vlogger in Pune After Video Goes Viral

The man who harassed South Korean vlogger Kelly in Maharashtra’s Pune has been arrested, police said. This comes days after video of her facing harassment while recording her vlog went viral.

The accused person’s actions were captured in Kelly’s camera and went viral on social after she posted the vlog. This enraged the public, after which Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad police took quick actions, which led to his arrest, an NDTV report said.

The arrest was made after the video was widely shared on online platforms, said ACP Satish Mane. The Pimpri Chinchwad police’s crime branch tracked him down in the Ravet area and arrested him on Tuesday.

In the footage of the distressing incident, a man abruptly approaches Kelly — who is talking with the vendors and casually sipping coconut water — and places a hand around her neck while another man stood next to her.

The other man can be heard saying, “Don’t stand so far. Hold her like this,” which made her uncomfortable.

Despite her attempts to distance herself, the man persisted, making Kelly visibly distressed. Following this, she decided to leave from there and said, “I have to run from here. They really like to hug, I don’t know why.”

Following the crazy experience, she said, “Wherever you travel, you can meet bad people. This is everywhere. So, I wanna say, please don’t judge every Indian. In my experience, India is such a good place to trip.”

However, contrast to her opinions, social media users expressed regret and apologized to Kelly in the comment sections on YouTube.

One of the users wrote, “As an Indian citizen I apologize you Kelly for that rascal, who behaved with you in that way.” While the other — showing concern for her safety — suggested, “Don’t let strangers touch you or hug you Kelly, stay healthy & safety.”

In a similar incident last year, two men were caught by police for harassing a South Korean woman while she was live-streaming. A video of the incident, which was highly circulated, showed one of the accused forcibly dragging the YouTuber by her hand while she repeatedly shouted “no, no”.

The incident took place in Mumbai and as she tried distancing herself, the man returned with another individual on a bike, offering her a ride. She declined the ride saying that her home is nearby.
