Darjeeling: The indefinite bandh called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) to demand a separate state of Gorkhaland has entered its fourth day on Tuesday. Normal life has been disrupted as markets and educational institutions remain closed.
West Bengal Home Secretary GD Gautam will be visiting Darjeeling on Tuesday. This comes after a day when Darjeeling police arrested an elected member of Gorkha Territorial Administration and a close associate of GJM chief Bimal Gurung, Anit Thapa over an old case.
According to official sources, additional security personnel have been deployed in Kalimpong after a GJM worker died by setting himself on fire.
Sixteen persons were also arrested on Sunday night for setting afire the Takdah forest bunglow, police said. The bandh continues to paralyse life in Darjeeling, vehicles also did not ply, official sources said.
